The proposed cultural cuts in the Netherlands budget are extreme, and likely to sink many creative boats. Having created protests of a level that matched this dire move by the government in terms of intensity, but to no avail, Dutch designers are now left quaking in their boots over what the real-life implications will mean to them both individually and collectively. Here some key players voice their concerns, claiming the importance of the link between the design status that their country has achieved and the funding that has made it possible, while recognising the delicate balance between skill, efficiency and economy.
